Station No. 2 | Premier Event Venue in Wilmington, NC
Most people walk past the red doors on South 5th Avenue without knowing what's behind them. Those who do know — don't forget it.
There's a certain kind of venue that does half the work for you before a single centerpiece is placed or a single candle is lit. Station No. 2 in Downtown Wilmington is that kind of venue.
Built in 1915 as Engine Company 2, this fully renovated historic firehouse has been transformed into one of the most distinctive event spaces in the Cape Fear region. And for intimate, elevated events — it's unmatched.
The Space: Where History Meets Elegance
Step through those iconic red doors and you're immediately in a space that feels like it was built for moments worth remembering.
The 1,700 sq ft main hall features original hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, and restored tin ceilings — architectural details that no amount of money can replicate in a modern venue. The bones of this building do what most event decor only tries to: they create atmosphere.
To the left of the main hall is the private garden courtyard — a walled-in, jasmine-covered outdoor space with original iron ladders, aged brick, and flagstone pavers strung with Edison lighting. It's the kind of setting that makes cocktail hours feel effortless and ceremony backdrops look like they were styled for a magazine.
Upstairs, the Firehouse Suite — with two bedrooms, a full kitchen, restored original shower tilework, and the original fireman's lockers — is included with every full-day rental. For weddings and multi-day events, it serves as a bridal suite, groom's suite, or a place for the couple to close out their night in style.
What Makes It Perfect for Catered Events
As a catering team, we love working at Station No. 2 for a few reasons beyond the obvious beauty of the space.
The venue is a true blank canvas. The mix of rustic and refined — exposed brick alongside Chiavari chairs, Edison-lit courtyard alongside white-linen table settings — means our food presentation gets to be the star. Whether we're setting a formal seated dinner, a cocktail-style grazing experience, or a multi-course celebration meal, the aesthetic of the space elevates everything on the table.
The layout also works beautifully for flow. With 14 six-foot rectangular tables, 6 round tables, 10 high tops, and 80 Chiavari chairs included in the rental, there's flexibility to configure the room for almost any format — intimate seated dinners, reception-style events, family-style celebrations, or a mix of all three.
And the courtyard? For a passed appetizer hour or dessert under string lights with a warm Wilmington evening, there's genuinely nothing better.
